Description

Following discussions with English Heritage a site for the construction of a new barn was agreed so as to cause minimal disturbance to the monument. As part of the mitigation two excavation trenches were excavated and a watching brief maintained during the remaining foundation trenches. Building measuring 67 x 30m with foundations of stanchion pits at 6m intervals. The pits measured 1.5 x 1.5m with an average depth of 1m. The trenches were sited on either side of the building, to investigate a linear feature. Trench 01 was archaeologically sterile. During the watching brief, no further archaeological remains or artefacts were exposed. (1) See E9366 for associated geophysical survey.
