Description
A watching brief was carried out on the construction of a fibre optic repeater station at Lowdham Road in the vicinity of linear features recorded as cropmarks. Observation of the trenches for foundations and mains electricity revealed nothing of archaeological interest, though the trenches for fibre optic cables were excavated without notification and therefore could not be monitored. The building to be erected was a frame structure 24 x 12m which did not require deep foundations. Trenches for external walls were 0.9 x 0.35m deep. Immediately N of the building the pit for the diesel storage tank was 5.5 x 3.25m x c.2m deep and similarly unproductive. The building area was scraped rather than stripped. (1)
