Description

The method construction [sic] required the excavation of strip foundations to a width of 0.5m and a maximum depth of 0.6m below the present ground surface. No archaeological deposits, features or artefacts were recovered during monitoring. This absence may be attributed to removal of material prior to construction of the previous development. A retaining wall surrounding the site indicates that the land had been reduced by around 2 meters to create a flat platform for construction. Any archaeological features which may have been present would have been removed at this stage {but see C18 - C19 boundary ditch mentioned elsewhere in report - DJB}. (1)
