Description
During ground breaking activities material was removed up to a depth of 5m. A trench 1.2m deep and up to 5.5m wide was excavated along the N edge of the entire frontage and footings excavated to a further depth of 1.7m from base of trench. Observations were also made of a pipe trench 1.1m wide, 62.5m in length, and excavated on the S side of Clumber Street to a depth of 3m. A ditching bucket was used to excavated small areas of undisturbed deposits, and earth cut features were excavated by hand. Ten trial pits dug for engineering purposes were monitored on 23 January 2000 with only 20th century rubble found. (1)
