Description

An archaeological watching brief during renewal of the road lighting and cabling facilities on the roundabout overlying the scheduled Romano-British small town of Margidunum. The groundwork comprised foundation holes for 52 lanterns (0.4 x 0.4 x 1.2- 1.3m deep) and cabling along the road verges, roundabout and traffic islands (0.3 x 0.5m deep [sic]). On the S, W and NW sides of the roundabout the destructive impact of the groundwork was partly negated by the substantial spread of fly-ash, deposited during construction of the roundabout. (1) See E31, E32, E931, for other work on the roundabout.
