Description

The test pit (ref BG13TP2) was a 1x1m square to a depth of 60cm on the lesser green, dug by hand in 10cm spits; all spits were 100% sieved and all spits were recorded on context sheets, including finds. At 38cms a cobble stone surface was found. At 40 cm a 5cm diameter post-hole in the north- east corner was found, below which was a cut feature with stones and large sherds of green-glazed pottery and bone. Plans were drawn, and photos taken, of spits 5 & 6. (1)
