Description

The test pit (ref BG13TP16) was a 1x1m square to a depth of 50cm on the lesser green, dug by hand in 10cm spits; all spits were 100% sieved and all spits were recorded on context sheets, including finds. At 15-20cms a cobble stone surface was found and, on half-section down to 50 cm, a possible pebble- filled drain cut into the natural clay. A plan was drawn and photos taken of spits 2 and 5, demonstrating the above (1).
