Description

The test pit (ref BG13TP17) was a 1x1m square to a depth of 60cm on the lesser green, dug by hand in 10cm spits; all spits were 100% sieved and all spits were recorded on context sheets, including finds. At 35cms a 50cm wide band of a cobble stone surface was found with a 13cm wide post-hole in the south-east corner. A plan was drawn , and photos taken, of spit 4 demonstrating the above (1).
