Description

The test pit (ref BG13TP19) was a 1x1m square to a depth of 50cm on the lesser green, dug by hand in 10cm spits; all spits were 100% sieved and all spits were recorded on context sheets, including finds. At 40cms a cobble- stone surface was found and a photo taken of spit 4 demonstrating this . A 50% sondage to 60 cms revealed natural orange-red clay with no finds. (1)
