Description

The test pit (ref BG13TP21) was a 1x1m square to a depth of 60cm on the lesser green, dug by hand in 10cm spits; all spits were 100% sieved and all spits were recorded on context sheets, including finds. There was no cobbled surface as in the adjacent test pits but a post-hole was found at 30cms down to 50cms in the south-east corner. A plan was drawn, and a photograph taken, to show the post-hole. A sondage to a depth of 60cm in the south west quarter of the pit reached orange clay. (1)
