Description

The site was located immediately to the west of the A1, to the north of Weston Road, approximately 1.5 km to the east of the village of Egmanton. An archaeologist was present on site to monitor the mechanical excavation and was able to inspected all surfaces and sections for archaeological remains. Soil was removed in a controlled manner using a 14 ton 360 degree excavator under archaeological supervision. All topsoil deposits were removed in level spits (not more than 0.20m). The lack of any archaeological finds, features or deposits from the fairly extensive trenching monitored across the site would suggest there is very little, if any, further potential for archaeological remains on the site.
