Description
This desk based assessment took place prior to the application for a proposed solar farm development for a site at Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire in order to establish the archaeological potential of the area.
The site is 12.1 ha.
The report contains information regarding the geology of the area borehole data examined. The report has been informed by a HER search, and highlights significant archaeological features identified in the area, including the site of an Anglo- Saxon cemetery and associated finds, the construction of the Grantham Canal, a WWII bombing decoy and modern mines. Sheffield Library of Air photographs was also visited as part of this study.
The report contains a map regression of the site, photos taken during a visit to the site.
With the exception of a ditch running across the north part of the site which could be considered of moderate local importance, the report concludes that the proposed solar development would not impact on the historic environment, and considers the archaeological potential of the site to be low. The report advises a watching brief should be present during the excavation of cable lines.
