Description

A cultural heritage desk-based assessment for a proposed Solar PV Development at Little Morton, Nottinghamshire was prepared. The study area includes a 2km radius of the proposed development site. The baseline evidence suggests that the study area has been occupied from the prehistoric period until the modern day. Features within the study area include a brickwork plan of field systems, with possible enclosures/ settlements dating to the Roman period, with origins possibly extending as far back as the Iron Age. Evidence suggests that the application site continued to be utilised as farmland throughout the medieval period until the modern day. There is the potential/risk for the proposed development to impact upon the brickwork plan field systems remains which are of local/ regional significance (depending on the state of preservation and presence of enclosures). The potential is, however, limited because of the small area of excavation associated with the proposed development. The report suggests a geophysical survey takes place prior to any development to determine the extent of possible archaeology. The study includes the results and photographs from a walkover survey which took place on 27/08/2013 and a map regression exercise.
