Description

A desk-based assessment was carried out for Landmark Planning Limited on behalf of Davidsons Developments Limited in order to assess the archaeological potential of land north of Abbey Lane, Aslockton, Nottinghamshire, in advance of the submission of a planning application for the con-struction of a new residential housing development The study is based on a range of primary and secondary sources including a search of the Nottinghamshire Historic Environment Record, historic maps and online resources. A map regression exercise and site visit took place as part of the study, accompanying images are within the report. Evidence suggests the site has been in use throughout archaeological periods. Features include; Iron Age/Roman crop mark, a single Anglo Saxon burial (which could indicate a formerly more ex-tensive cemetery. Medieval moated enclosures are present at Canmer’s Mound and possible trac-es of ridge and furrow were recorded during a site visit. The report concludes that the site has moderate archaeological potential of local significance – with the greatest interest being in the po-tential later prehistoric crop mark.
