Description
An archaeological desk-based assessment and site walkover was undertaken to assess the impact of a proposed solar farm on land at Holme Farm, Bassingfield, Nottinghamshire.
No further archaeological sites were identified as a result of the desk-based research that was undertaken or during the site visit. This work did, however, confirm that extensive gravel extraction, undertaken during the later 20th century, is likely to have significantly reduced the potential for archaeological remains to be present within the proposed development area. There is however, a potential for prehistoric and early medieval finds, deposits or features immediately beyond the development site, and to the north of the proposed solar park.
The results of the visual impact analysis indicate that a number of designated assets are potentially located within the Zone of Theoretical Visibility of the proposed solar park. These significantly include the Grade I listed Holme Pierrepont Hall and the surrounding Grade II registered parkland. Holme Pierrepont Hall could not be seen from the site due to tree cover, and there were only limited views of the parkland.
The report includes photographs taken on the site visit and a map regression exercise.
