Description
The report is designed to establish the cultural heritage, historic setting and heritage value of the site and area surrounding the land at Barton in Fabis, Nottingham prior to development proposals involving mineral extraction.
The report consulted NCC HER, Historic England Datasets and records, and a map regression exercise also took place.
The report lists sites of archaeological interest that surround the site and discusses how the proposed development can remain sympathetic to the features – of which include; a Romano-British enclosed settlement and villa complex and listed buildings that lie close to the development area, for example.
The report suggests that a full archaeological evaluation should take place, involving site and desk based investigations.
The report concludes “A mineral extraction development with a leisure, marina / wildlife en-hanced restoration scheme could be successfully integrated and assimilated into the proposed site / local site area without direct effects on the cultural heritage of surrounding desig-nated areas. In addition the proposals could be designed to avoid the areas of existing rec-ords and measures built into the scheme to allow for full archaeological investigation of the progressive working areas. These issues could be addressed at both preapplication submission stages and during an archaeological watching brief of progressive works”.
