Description
An archaeological watching brief took place during excavations for the three new maintenance lay-bys at A1 and A46 at various locations in Nottinghamshire. The works comprised the widening of existing lay-bys at one site involved excavations for a completely new lay-by.
The watching brief identified no features of archaeological siginificance at any of the locations; the predominent layers encountered being attributable to modern road construction or maintenance.
The watching brief took place at night under strong arc lighting by a smooth bladed bucket, spoil from the excavations was also scanned with a metal detector and raked through for finds recovery.
