Description

This watching brief took place during the demolition of the former East Midlands Stagecoach bus depot. The bus garage had re-used two walls of 19th Century Malthouse. Most of the area was occupied by George Ledger’s iron and brass factory between 1830 and 1926. Three plank lined pits were found beneath the destruction debris, the report suggests that this may indicate a pre-Victorian tannery. No evidence of earlier occupation was encountered The report contains architectural plans of the Malthouse, images of the Tannery from the early 20th century, the depot prior to demolition, the plank lined pits and a site location plan.
