Description

The geophysical survey at Lower Kirklington Road, Southwell detected no anomalies of archaeological potential; however, a former field boundary shown on historic mapping was located. Parallel linear anomalies are due to past agricultural activity, either ridge and furrow, orchards, other crops or drainage. Several weak trends are probably due to agricultural or natural effects. Study area: approx 2.65ha. The site is located approximately 15km north-east of Nottingham on the northern edge of Southwell. It is bounded to the south-west by properties on Lower Kirklington Road, to the south-east by properties on Orchard Close and to the north-east by the Southwell Trail, a former railway line.
