Description

A geophysical survey by magnetometry was undertaken by Allen Archaeology Limited (AAL) for Landmark Planning Limited on behalf of Davidsons Developments Limited, prior to the submission of a planning application for a residential development on land north of Abbey Lane in Aslockton, Nottinghamshire. The fieldwork was carried out by a team of two experienced geophysicists from AAL over a period of two working days, Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th January 2014. The geophysical survey has identified a complex of linear, curvilinear and pit-like features relating to previous anthropogenic activity. The main area of interest lies in the centre of the site with further associated features to the south and southwest. The morphology of the features and evidence from the vicinity of the site suggests that these anomalies are likely to represent settlement and agricultural features of later prehistoric to Roman date. It is recommended that a programme of archaeological evaluation by trial trenching is undertaken in order to provide further information upon the nature and extent of the archaeological resource.
