Description

In May 2017 Wardell Armstrong Ltd (WA) undertook a geophysical survey of land at Cavendish Way, Clipstone, Nottinghamshire. The survey was undertaken for Persimmon Homes Nottinghamshire, to provide information in relation to a planning application for a residential development at the site. A number of cropmarks have been identified on aerial photographs of the Clipstone area, which are indicative of possible sub-surface archaeological features. The objective of the geophysical survey was therefore to determine the presence/absence, nature and extent of potential archaeological features within the study area, and the presence/absence of any known modern features within the survey area, which may affect the results. Magnetic disturbance has been detected in several parts of the site associated with modern structures. The geophysical survey has also detected several weak geophysical anomalies, the nature of which is uncertain. The results of the geophysical survey were inconclusive regarding the possible presence or absence of archaeological features due to the disturbed nature of the site.
