Description

The watching brief monitored the hand-excavation of a rectangular soakaway and an associated drainage channel running ESE from the existing granite-laid drainage channel. Trench was 1.9m long by 0.70m wide and 0.93m deep. Stratigraphy: turf overlying disturbed and redeposited topsoil. Small fragments of stone rubble, mortar, clay tobacco pipe stems, post-Medieval to modern ceramics. No subsoil or natural geology.
