Description

The study site comprises c. 7ha split over 2 areas centred at approximately SK 7869 8563, located to the west of West Burton A Power Station, to the southwest of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. The survey was undertaken using Bartington Grad601 magnetic gradiometers. These were employed taking readings at 0.25m intervals on zig-zag traverses 1.0m apart within 30m by 30m grids, so that 3600 readings were recorded in each grid. The majority of the anomalies recorded are agricultural including field drains, and modern ploughing. A gas pipe runs through the easternmost field. Magnetic disturbance along the limits of the survey area are due to the adjacent railway line and road. Based on the geophysical survey the archaeological potential of this site is deemed to be low.
