Description

The site sits within the former medieval core of the village and is bounded on all sides by residential properties except to the south-west where it is bounded by the golf course. The watching brief consisted of the excavation of six footing trenches within two main areas of development, one towards the rear of the building and one to the SW of the building. Other than 20th century rubble and waste material, no other finds or features of archaeological significance were recovered during groundworks. The watching brief monitored the excavation of six footing trenches located within the PDA. The ground had been previously disturbed to a depth of up to 2m across the site during the construction of the existing basement and house in the 20th century. No intact archaeological deposits prior to this date were recorded during the watching brief.
