Description
The watching brief was carried out on the west side of Chilwell, along Field Lane and High Road, and is in an area of suburban housing and interconnecting road systems. The trial were located on a small promontory to the north of the River Trent and along its basin.
The watching brief monitored the excavation of eight trial holes located on High Road. The watching archaeologist monitored all mechanical excavations within the specified area.
Artefactual evidence was limited to a small amount of modern material comprising machine-made frogged brick, glass, ceramic tile fragments and a heavily corroded metal object, found within backfill deposits in two trial holes.
No archaeological features, deposits or structures were found in any of the trial holes, at the depths excavated.
