The site totals c.7.8ha. The site is located c. 11km to the north-west of the village of Wiloughby on the Wolds, 11km of Loughborough and 15km to the south-east of Nottingham. It consists of two hedge-bordered fields, currently under pasture, and is bounded by West Thorpe Lane to the west and farmland to the south, east and north. Data collection involved the traversing of the survey area along straight and parallel lines using two cart-mounted Barington Grad601-2 fluxgate gradiometers. Readings were taken at 0.13m intervals along traverses 1m apart. Traverses were walked at an alternating zig-zag pattern along a north-west to south-east orientation across the north field and south-west to north-east across the southern field. The geophysical survey of the two fields which comprise the survey site was successfully undertaken. Other than a short section of weak positive linear anomaly in the southern field, no anomalies of archaeological initerest were detected. However, across a significant portion of the site, particularly in the southern field are a large amount of magnetic disturbance included buried services and magnetic debris as well as historic agricultural features forming ridge and furrow. These stronger anomalies may be masking earlier and more subtle features. The weak positive linear anomaly, in the north-east of the field, measured 25m in length and orientated south to north, may represent a length of buried ditch of possible archaeological interest. The low response, however, in an area with a high magnetic disturbance may be creating a false shadow.
