Description

The site comprises of a roughly triangular area of agricultural land immediately east of Fosse Way and west of the A46, at the northeast end of Farndon. The fieldwalking survey was undertaken by three experienced field archaeologists. The collection sample comprised a 100% sample of the areas available for survey, achieved by means of a series of 2m wide collection traverses at 2m spacings. The fieldwalking survey was carried out on a mixture of ploughed land with weeds and land sown with sugar beet crop that had been left to weather. The ground surface was largely dry with some areas of waterlogging. Forty lithic artefacts and eight burnt flints were collected during the fieldwalking survey. The worked assemblage comprised of flintwork ranging in date from the Later Upper Palaeolithic to Bronze Age.
