Description
The BGS was sub-contracted to provide the geophysical component of a full evaluation of the site which comprised an electromagnetic conductivity survey along three traverses. The survey was conducted during 4th – 5th March 1992. Line 1 GR W- 481380/362650 E – 482110/362600. This traverse runs east to west, starting at the NE corner of the field adjacent to Ferry Lane Farm and finishing at the Carlton Ferry Lane. Line 2 GR W- 481390/363150 E – 482060/363300. Starting on the bend in the Carlton Ferry Lane between the two gravel pits this line runs ENE and finishes at the track 170m east of the stream. Line 3 GR N- 481000/363530 S – 481810/362240. This traverse runs north to south starting from where the track crosses the stream in the north and finishing at the track approximately 200m west of Ferry Lane Farm. The existence of a 100m wide palaeochannel on Line 1 is proven. (1)
GR given is for the west end of Line 1.
See E498, E512 for further geophysical surveys.
