Description

A series of exploratory trenches scattered over the area (enclosed by "moat"). The first trenches were dug on the edge of the longer arm of the moat, which runs approx NE-SW, and this proved to be the most fruitful part of the area. Time did not allow of excavations among the outer works. Not one find was made which could for a moment be considered as Roman. (1)
