Description
The site is located at Moorhaigh Farm, south of Pleasley, Nottinghamshire. The survey area is approximately 0.5 hectares of arable farmland. A small area in the east of the site was obstructed by agricultural machinery, but did not significantly affect the total area surveyed.
The magnetic survey was carried out using a dual sensor Grad601-2 Magnetic Gradiometer manufactured by Bartington Instruments Ltd. Readings were taken at 0.25m centres along traverses 1m apart. This equates to 3600 sampling points in a full 30m x 30m grid.
The survey at Moorhaigh Farm has not identified any anomalies of probable archaeological origin. There are no anomalies that can confidently be said to relate to Romano-British or medieval activity, which is purported in the surrounding area. A number of linear and discrete anomalies are of possible archaeological origin; however they could equally be natural or relate to agricultural activity. The remaining features are natural or modern in origin, relating to underground services and magnetic disturbance associated with nearby ferrous objects.
