The tower is located within arable land that is bounded to the east by Cow Pasture Lane and to the north by Broad Lane, near Cottam in Nottinghamshire. As part of a phase of refurbishment works, a watching brief was carried out at a tower. A test pit measuring c 0.6x1.5m was excavated, using a JCB equiped with a standard width dithcing bucket, against the NW facing concrete footing of the tower to a final depth of 1.6m. A total of three deposits were recorded during the intervention. No deposits or features of archaeological interest were revealed and no artefacts were recovered.
