Description
The survey area was located c. 2km southeast of Worksop. Gradiometer survey was undertaken across two fields of predominately grassland. The survey area is surrounded by housing – South Avenue to the north, Kingston Road to the east and south, and Southbreck Rise to the west. The survey area covered c. 2.8ha of land. An area of c. 0.55ha was unable to be surveyed due to overgrown vegetation and the presence of trees preventing access with the equipment.
Method: Magnetic
Instrument: Bartington Instruments Grad-13 Digital Three-Axis Gradiometer
Traverse Interval: 1m
Sample Interval: 200Hz reprojected to 0.125m
The survey responded well to the environment of the survey area. However, magnetic disturbances along the field boundaries, resulting from ferrous debris associated with nearby housing development and demolition of the former primary school, may have obscure weaker anomalies if present.
No anomalies clearly indicative of archaeological origin were identified within the survey area.
A series of undetermined anomalies have been detected. These have been classified as undetermined due to their varying magnetic strength and inconsistent size and pattern.
