Description

The proposed development consists of four dwellings and associated car parking space on land to the north of No. 1 Blind Lane in the village of Keyworth, in the Rushcliffe District of Nottinghamshire. The site is located in the centre of the village. It is bounded by Blind Lane to the west, The Square to the north, the rear of a number of shops on the village high street to the east, and No. 2 Blind Lane to the south. The plot of land is defined by a stone retaining wall to the north and west. The site was excavated by a 13 tonne tracked mechanical excavator. All overlying soil deposits were removed by the mechanical excavator, using a toothless ditching bucket under close archaeological supervision. All further excavation was undertaken by hand. To ensure the presence of any archaeological features was properly established, the entire footprint of the proposed development was excavated down to the superficial geological deposits, namely the upper interface of the boulder clay. The relict soil deposit directly overlay the natural substrate which consisted of firm glacial till deposits. Apart from a modern concrete foundation pad at the west of the site and a number of existing observation chambers for utilities on the site, no archaeological features or finds were identified.
