Description

The construction of a loop road joining A46 to Back Lane in 1964 revealed Saxon graves in OS 313 and 314. Some excavation was carried out by MW Barley. (1) In 1963, further major roadworks at Broughton Lodge. The construction of the western slip road involved the scraping of the road area down to the subsoil …and the digging of flanking drainage ditches. Features were observed and recorded by Prof. MW Barley. (2)
