Description

The Great War Filling Factory at Chilwell was identified from documentary sources by the RCHME project `Dangerous Energy - the archaeology of gunpowder and military explosives manufacture'. A field visit was made to the factory in January 1996 to confirm its location and to ascertain the level of survival of its remains. The principal surviving buildings were recorded by ground photography in March 1996 and an album of historic photographs was copied.
