Description

Near the south-west tower of the castle, landscaping, which would alter the contours both of the cliff and the small plot immediately south of the south wall of the castle, was proposed, and the demolition of buildings on this site. A machine was used to cut a trench at a right angle to the south wall of the castle. The main objective was to clarify some of the results of the 1953-6 excavations by locating the castle moat and ditch. (2)
