Airfield and associated structures. (2)
A B2 (Bomber Training) type airfield with perimeter track, hard surface runways, Battle HQ, 4 T2 Hangars, 10 ammo stores and technical site (3)
Ossington Airfield, Nottinghamshire, opened in 1942 and closed in 1946. The Willis and Holliss Gazetteer gives the NGR of the site asSK 780 413, (sic) but this is incorrect and is actually the NGR for Orston Airfield. During the war the airfield was a Royal Air Force Bomber Command station, principally being the base for an Operation Training Unit, attached to 93 Group. The airfield consisted of three concrete runways and was equipped with four aircraft hangars (Type T2). By December 1944 there was temporary accomodation for 2122 male and 341 female personnel around the airfield. By 1985 the site was used for agriculture. (4)
