Full Description

AUXILIARY UNIT OPERATIONAL BASE
In c.1993 some 30 x Lee Enfield .303 rifles, with Enfield revolvers, were found clipped to roof beams in the roof space of Grassthorpe Manor. Evidence showed that the rifles had been hidden for recovery in an emergency [i.e. invasion] rather than stacked for immediate Home Guard use. This indicates that this might have been a secret Auxiliary Unit arms cache, part of a possible operational base. (1)
