Full Description

Over burden was machine excavated along a strip down the east side of Phase 2 to provide an access road. Two further strips were excavated at the northern and southern ends of the area to provide approximate east – west long sections. In the northern strip, an area c.10 x 5m was stripped back from the section to the level of the features. A representative sample of the features was rapidly excavated and recorded. These included a series of sub-rounded features interpreted as post holes c. 1.20m wide and 0.70m deep with steep sides and round bases running approximately east to west and cut into the lower alluvial subsoil. Two linear features (gullies) were also revealed. One c. 0.40m wide and 0.40m deep with very steeply cut sides, the other only 0.15m deep. No datable artefacts were recovered. (1)
