Full Description

During Phase 3, several areas were identified for archaeological investigation. BES/03 was located in the NW corner of Phase 3. At this location three apparently sub-rectangular to sub-rounded features were revealed in plan. The excavation of one of these features showed it to be a sub-rounded pit, c. 1.20m wide and 0.60m deep, adjoined by a shallow sub-rounded feature c. 1.20m wide and up to 0.30m deep. The third feature was also excavated and this was shallow and dub-rectangular in form c. 2.40m long by 0.80m wide and 0.25m deep. No datable artefacts directly associated with the features were recovered. Interpreted as a series of pits of unknown date and function along the edge of a contemporary stream or river channel. (1)
