Full Description

Skeleton found inside dovecote, whilst digging a drainage trench. The skeleton lay in the red silty clay which was overlain directly by 0.1 to 0.15m of concrete that made up the floor of the dovecote. No gravecut was visible, which suggests that the grave was backfilled very rapidly after the body was placed in it. When fullly excavated, the skeleton, which initial examination suggested was a young women between 20 and 30 years old, was in an extended position, aligned north - south along the trench. If the body was buried whilst the structure was standing it would suggest unauthorised or irregular burial. (1)
See M11911 for dovecote.
