Full Description

A human skull was recovered from a vault at a depth of 0.33m OD in close proximity to the root bole of a large oak. (1) (2)
One human skull, the skulls and horn cores of aurochs and of a red deer were found by quarry workers in the sorting plant spoilheap. The second skull was found in the quarry itself. Both skulls were from adult males. Their measurements (cephalic indicies) are suggestive of a BA affinity. (3) (4)
Although no gird reference is given for the skull found in the quarry, and the other bones were found on the spoil tip, as both skulls were retrieved at the same time it is likely they came from a limited area, in the southern part of Phase 2 of the quarry. (5)
See L5899 for rapier, found nearby.
