Full Description

A series of linear earthworks within the plantation and adjacent areas … four parallel N-S banks some 20m across in part … the best preserved stands well over 2m high. A series of smaller E-W bank run along the edges of the plantations. Those at the S edge are 3-5m wide and up to 1m high. The most obvious possibility is that they are associated with management (of the plantation). However, all of these banks have old thorn hedges along them; the most likely date for their planting is at Enclosure ("pre 1738" - sic - actually 1764). The plantation utilised former field areas without major changes as lynchets are preserved at 4 and 9. (1)
