Full Description

Area 1 (N part of site, containing most of the trenches). In the mid C19 a platform was built for a small industrial or commercial complex, presumably to raise the area above flood level. The platform incorporated a wide variety of brick, clay and assorted rubble. It enclosed West Carr Drain where it ran under the site (L11805). The platform is dated by the presence of a wide assortment of post 1850 pottery, glass, brick, tile, metal and other rubbish. A number of stone ware jars and pots. Some stamped, majority are "Doulton Lambeth", one "Taylor Liverpool". Also a small ginger jar of Chinese origin. (1)
See L11801 for medieval finds and cross references, L11805 for culvert.
