Full Description

Trench A, Trench D. West Carr Drain appears to have originated as an open ditch. Probably in C19, the drain was enclosed within a brick lined culvert. The culvert was circular in section and measured approximately 0.9m in diameter. It was sealed by a platform of bricks (L11804), most of which were of mid C19 date. The culvert was grubbed out (during the building works). The bricks used to make the culvert have been dated to c 1850. (1)
See L11804 for brick platform, L11801 for medieval pottery and other refs.
