Full Description

Groundworks for extension to water treatment works. No associated dating material was found. Ditch 1, broad ditch, NW- SE, possibly pre-medieval. A single P Med pottery sherd and part of poorly made brick were found in the topsoil at the top of the ditch. Redeposited red clay on the W side of the ditch was interpreted as remains of upcast bank. A shallower broad ditch was seen in the eastern face, with a similar fill. Ditch 9, E-W, may have had an associated bank. Ditch 16 crossed the trench at an oblique angle and its actual width was not found. (1)
Grid ref centred.
See M4947 for nearby Med building.
