Full Description

Watching brief during topsoil stripping and quarrying. Pit alignment on the top of the dune, with elongated pits and running ESE / WNW, perpendicular to the axis of the dune and en route for the floodplain. It petered out on the shoulder of the dune, to reappear at its foot further W, where one pit post-dates a patch of burnt mound material as well as one of the round "water pits". The pit alignment here had been dug along the base of an earlier ditch, both ending at the W more or less where they ran into floodplain deposits as existing in their day. (1)
Grid reference for alignment on top of dune.
See L11957 for burnt mounds and water pits, L11959 for ditch system and L11960 for pits on dune.
