Full Description
Watching brief during topsoil stripping. To the west of a pond feature, an isolated pit. To the east, a complex multi-phase series of shallow gullies cutting the upper fills of a series of deeper pits, all with a general N/S alignment. Two main lines of features were recorded , each with significant sub-phases. Interpreted as a continuously maintained land boundary. High level of organic preservation of wood and occasionally bone. After filling, both pond and features became buried in reworked sands … there was an unusual preservation of the ground surface contemporary with the features. (1)
See L11964 and L11965 for BA features, L11966 for later phase.
