Full Description

Watching brief on topsoil stripping. East of the dune were numerous ditches principally aligned NE - SW, though few finds have been recovered to indicate a date. Two pits, one produced brushwood preserved by waterlogging, and a four post structure typical of IA settlement. A second group of ditches, oriented roughly N-S, lay close to the W edge of the area, and two dense clusters of pits were located, one on the E edge and one on the S. This phase saw the gradual infilling of the dune-top hollow. Close to the top was a perceptible level containing Romano-British artefacts. … A Roman brooch came from a ditch (beneath E Med feature). (Wicker lined well shown on fig). (1)
See L11965 for nearby Beaker burials, L11967 for E Med features overlying this phase.
