Full Description

A low earthwork along the boundary between the parishes of Newstead and Papplewick (now Ravenshead, not Newstead). Visible along the full length of the boundary within the study area. At the W end it has the form of a low linear bank, c.1.5m across and less than 0.5m high. Towards the W end, weathered, randomly pitched stonework has been exposed by erosion of the bank. In the central part of the study area, the earthwork has more the character of a hollow way, with a slight bank on the N marking the parish line. At the extreme E of the study area and for some distance beyond, the boundary takes the form of a substantial terraced trackway, with a bank of varying size on its N side. (1)
Grid ref centred, within study area.
See M12928 for boundary stone.
